ANJAR
Anjar is a unique site in
Lebanon. Located in the Bekaa valley, it stands as one of the very few vestiges we have from the Oumeyyad period.
It was only discovered some five decades ago and the excava-tions
yielded the skeleton of the town that existed there in the 8th
century A.D with its streets, palaces, baths and some 600 shops
that were it seems the backbone of the economical activity of
this little town. The site offers a beautiful view of the valley
surrounding it and the mountains of Mount Lebanon facing it. |
